Summer Centrepiece and Watercolour workshop: 4th June 2023 10am - 3.30pm

We are so thrilled to be offering a workshop combining floristry and botanical watercolour painting. We are delighted to have teamed up with local artist Charlie Clapp to run a day on the farm cutting flowers and arranging them in the morning, then, after a delicious lunch by local caterers Sprout and Woodruff, an afternoon painting the flowers you have cut.

The workshop will start with a walk around the cutting beds where Katie will talk about the plants and how she grows. Then, weather and conditions permitting, we plan that you will be able to choose and cut your own flowers that will be used in your arrangement.

Once you have picked your flowers, you will sit back with a cup of coffee whilst your flowers condition in water, and Katie will give a demonstration of creating the centrepiece arrangement.

It’s then your turn to get creative, with Katie on hand to help and guide. Each centrepiece will be unique as you will all have chosen different materials. Katie will guide you through choosing your flowers and foliages and how to place them, helping you with conditioning techniques and then the arranging process.

At around 12.30 you will be taken to The Farmhouse where you will enjoy a simple seasonal lunch before returning to the cutting beds to pick flowers to paint with Charlie in the afternoon.

Charlie will then give you a watercolour demonstration before it’s your turn to have a go.  You will be focusing on shapes and colours and will start by drawing a light sketch in pencil.

Charlie will then explore with you the different techniques and tones you can get using just a few watercolours and a simple colour palette. Charlie will be working her way around the room answering any questions and helping you while you paint before you’ll finish off using an ink pen to create wiggly lines on top in keeping with Charlie’s particular style.

All materials will be provided. Please wear clothes suitable for the weather including a jacket as the workshop is much cooler than outside, and footwear suitable for walking around the garden. You may wish to bring an apron for the painting too!

Numbers will be limited to 6 attendees so that we all have plenty of space to work.
